What was your last great East Asian contemporary novel?

I was hard pressed to think of at least one until I picked this up. Huge thanks to #MarinerBooks and sister/parent company for blessing me with a surprise ARC gift copy! I’ve just started this last night but have high hopes after a taste that this collection of short stories is going to be great.

Now reading…

📚 Land of Big Numbers: Stories
by Te-Ping Chen

Synopsis (abridged): Gripping and compassionate, Land of Big Numbers traces the journeys of the diverse and legion Chinese people, their history, their government, and how all of that has tumbled—messily, violently, but still beautifully—into the present.

Cutting between clear-eyed realism and tongue-in-cheek magical realism, Chen’s stories coalesce into a portrait of a people striving for openings where mobility is limited.

✨ To my loved ones feeding my leopard print addiction with gifts, Thank you! Also, you are the reason I am asking Google to play “King’s Motorcade” from Coming to America while I prance around the house doing my best audition HBCU majorette dance moves 😅😂.

Side note: Am I the only one stoked about the Coming to America sequel? Like, I’m waited all my life for my absolute favorite movie to do more. While at the same time I’m scared because it was already so perfect! G-d please don’t let them ruin it! 🥺

Any-who, happy Monday!
⠀ 💋 xoxo,
Kat

P.S. #LandOfBigNumbers by #TePingChen estimated publication is 2/2/2021!
