It’s been a rough year, but December is here. It feels like it came quickly and yet not quick enough at the same time.
⠀
I read ten books in November.
⠀
📚 The Meaning of Mariah Carey by Mariah Carey and Michaela Angela Davis
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
💭I have a newfound love of Mariah Carey! I would absolutely go to bat for her!
⠀
📚 GLORY: Magical Visions of Black Beauty by Kahran Bethencourt and Regis Bethencourt
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
⠀
📚 Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
⠀
📚 Genesis Begins Again by Alicia D. Williams
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
⠀
📚 The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
💭 Light, quick, adorable contemporary romance
⠀
📚 We Were Eight Years in Power by Ta-Nehisi Coates
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
⠀
📚 Heavy: An American Memoir by Kiese Laymon
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
💭 I don’t know where this man found the strength to write this but it was very brave as it was heartbreaking. I love this book for its honesty and I hope it provided some healing for the author. Secrets are damaging yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We should all be so brave as to speak our truths.
⠀
📚 Let Love Have the Last Word: A Memoir by Common
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
💭 This was good but I felt like it was missing the meat and potatoes.
⠀
📚 Hands Up! by Breanna J. McDaniel
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
💭 This was a virtual story time hit!
⠀
📚 A is for Activist by Innosanto Nagara
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
💭 The title is a red herring. This felt like an adult book and had me loosing my young audience’s attention.
⠀
✨I have no particular theme for this month but I reckon I will attempt to read the remaining 26 titles by BIOOC authors toward my 220 in 2020 reading goal. I’m in a children’s literature class this semester with a lot of required reading so I have faith I’ll make it.
⠀
What are you all reading? Do you have any goals or themes for December?
⠀
💋 xoxo,
Kat
