✨The fiction versus non-fiction war wages onward! Which do you love more? ✨

There used to be a time when I thought non-fiction was not worth it. I used to turn my nose up at anything other than fiction, because even though it was make-believe, it was still honest. 😏 Let’s face it, much of the traditional text was written on unscrupulous concepts meant to suppress anything “other”. *cough* I digress. But honestly, I felt most non-fiction was not beneficial toward my journey. At the time I didn’t know of too many written with the Black experience in mind. Maybe I was blind. I realize now that I was contemplating reading the wrong types of books. 📚 I could have also used a reading mentor. 🤔

I am happy to discover books like Stamped From the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi. The amount of research that went into that one is beyond impressive, and today’s mid-point discussion was phenomenal. Big ups to @melanatedreader @_pagesgaloree @booksteahenny for hosting such an EPIC read along. Were you there? If you haven’t read that one yet, do yourself a favor and read it as well as Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds. It’s time to relearn America’s history. You deserve it!

I can honestly say that I love non-fiction just the same, if not more than fiction these days. What is a book, backlist or frontlist that you would highly recommend to a reluctant non-fiction reader?

I am crossing my fingers that this pile of newish bookshelf additions reaffirm my newfound enjoyment in non-fiction. Huge thanks to @harperbooks for Wandering In Strange Lands: A Daughter of the Great Migration Reclaims Her Roots by Morgan Jerkins. I bought All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson for a buddy read with my brother and I am excited to start tomorrow.

Riding the wave of my longterm love affair with fiction, I am adding The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones by Daven McQueen. Thanks again @the_booksandwich for the giveaway. I was ecstatic to win this beautiful novel. Also, big ups to @readitforward for It’s Not All Downhill From Here by Terry McMillan. I started this one on Shabbat and just finished it.👍🏾 3.5 ⭐️
